Managing Your Application

Managing Your Application

We have a dedicated online recruitment portal where applicants can register and apply for roles with the SKAO. There is an online help but if you are experiencing any particular difficulties or have questions regarding the role or working at the SKAO before you apply, please contact us at jobs@skao.int

What information will I need to provide?

For all applications you will need to provide an up-to-date CV, a cover letter and to complete an online application form.

You will also be asked to provide some personal details which will only be seen by HR; this information is used for our reporting and monitoring purposes, it is anonymous and not linked to your application.

What do I need to include in a cover letter?

The cover letter should summarise how your experience, skills and knowledge fits with the specific role requirements listed in the job advert.

Applications are assessed against key criteria specified in the job description in order to draw up a short-list of candidates for interview.

To provide the best possible cover letter for the shortlisting panel you should list each of the mandatory criteria in turn and provide a brief summary in a few sentences or less to explain how you meet that criteria. You shoud also list desirable criteria if you meet any of those.

See also the Application Hints & Tips section.

Why do you ask me to share my current salary details?

Please note that your salary details do not form part of shortlisting decisions.

We ask you to provide salary details at the start so that we can contact you if your current salary is higher than the budgeted range for the role. This means you will have full information to allow you to decide whether to proceed further. We do offer competitive salaries with generous pension and benefits packages and realise that the salary level is only one part of the reason why candidates apply for roles, but we do not want to waste anyone's time if your remuneration expectations are not in line with what we can offer.

If you are not currently in a role, please provide your most recent salary or contractor earnings and/or your salary expectations.

Does the application need to be in English?

Yes, your application must be submitted in English. You must be proficient in both written and spoken English as this is the working language of the SKA Observatory.

How can I verify that my application has been received?

After submitting your application, you will receive an email confirming that your application has been received. If you do not receive this confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting your application, please contact us at jobs@skatelescope.org. Please also check your spam inbox.

What should I do if I search for a job and no results come back?

This means there are no current vacancies meeting your search criteria. You can set up a job alert and you will receive an email if any suitable vacancies arise in the future.

Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

Yes, you are welcome to apply for any and all roles for which you are qualified for. You will need to submit a separate application for each role, not least so that you can tailor your application to the differing role requirements.

How do I view my application/s?

When you have registered and logged in, you will be able to view any draft or submitted applications.

Once you have submitted an application you can only change it by withdrawing and resubmitting the application before the closing date.

Saving a copy of the Job Description

If you wish to see a copy of the job description after the role has closed, please choose the 'Send to a friend' option on the portal to e-mail a copy of the job description to your email address before the role closes.
