Frequently Asked Questions
Does my application need to be in English?
Yes, your application must be submitted in English. English is the working language across SKAO and as such all employees are required to have a good level of English language skill both written and verbal.
How can I verify that my application has been received?
After submitting your application, you will receive an automated email confirming that your application has been received. If you do not receive this confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting your application, please contact us at jobs@skao.int. Please also check your spam inbox.
Can I apply for more than one job at a time?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for any and all roles for which you are qualified. You will need to submit a separate application for each role, not least so that you can tailor your cover letter to the differing role requirements.
How do I view my application/s?
To view your application(s) you must log into your candidate account. There you will be able to see any draft and/or submitted applications.
Once you have submitted an application you can only change it by withdrawing and resubmitting the application before the advert’s closing date.
Saving a copy of the Job Description
If you wish to save a copy of the job description in order to have it available after the role has closed, please choose the 'Send to a friend' option in the advert to email a copy of the job description to your email address before the role closes.
What should I do if I search for a job and no results come back?
This means that there are no current vacancies meeting your search criteria. You can set up job alerts so that you will be notified via email if or when any suitable vacancies arise in the future.
How can I update my personal details?
You can amend your personal details at any time by logging into your candidate account. Please note this will not amend your details on applications already submitted.
Will I receive feedback on my application and interview?
Applicants will be offered the opportunity to request feedback if they have attended an interview or assessment. The HR Team will request feedback from the recruitment panel and forward this to applicants upon request. We regret that we are unable to provide feedback on applications that have not progressed to interview stage.
I have seen a particular role advertised in many places. Why do SKAO do this?
We seek to attract a diverse pool of applicants for all of our vacancies and by utilising many different advertising sources this contributes to this aim. In addition, we advertise the majority of our roles globally to honor our commitment to our member countries providing visibility internationally of our opportunities.
Where can I find details about the roles such as location and salary?
All the relevant details for each position are included in the job advertisement. We ensure that the specific location of the role, UK, Australia or South Africa, is highlighted within the job advert so applicants are aware of this from the outset. Salary range for each position is also advertised to aid candidates in making their decision to apply. If candidates do have any specific questions about a role they wish to ask prior to application then please email jobs@skao.int.
Can SKAO provide remote working if I cannot relocate from my current country or commute to an SKAO location?
SKAO operates a flexible working approach to all Colleagues in line with our Flexible Working guidance. We are only able to employ individuals who are able to be located in our 3 host countries. We can offer support for relocation and relevant visa applications for successful applicants.
